Freelance journalist
New Delhi
I am a freelance journalist who - till as recently as October 2014 - worked as an Associate Editor at Business Standard, an Indian business daily, where I reported on the intersection of labour, politics and business.
I hope to spend much of 2015 in China, reporting on India-China trade.
Prior to the Business Standard, I worked for 8 years with The Hindu, a widely read indian daily. I served as their Addis Ababa-based Africa correspondent from 2012 to Feb 2014, prior to which I was in Central India covering mining, conflict, and Human Rights.
I am also the author of A Free Man (2012 Jonathan Cape UK/ W.W. Norton and Co. US), an award-winning book of non-fiction based on 5 years of reportage on Delhi's working class.
Apart from The Hindu and Business Standard, my work has appeared on the New York Times website, the Wall Street Journal, Guernica magazine, Caravan and the upcoming issue of Granta.
