Think slavery is a thing of the past? More people are enslaved today than at any time in human history, forced to work without pay and under threat of violence. You can find them across Asia, in agriculture, fishing, gravel pits, mines, domestic service, and brothels. In a nine-month investigation, this team, sponsored by the Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism, used databases, interviews, and undercover work to reveal shocking abuses in the Indonesian palm oil industry. Their award-winning story -- Indonesia's Palm Oil Industry Rife With Human-Rights Abuses in Bloomberg Businessweek -- traced the products of slavery to grocery shelves in China, Europe, the United States, and worldwide.
