How To Find and Use Data on Asia

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

The bedrock of investigative reporting is facts, and few facts go as far to nail down a pattern of activity or wrongdoing as a robust database. Asia has traditionally not been known for an abundance of publicly available databases, but that's changing. Join data journalists from three countries to explore what's already public, strategies for discovering -- and uncovering -- other datasets, and critically, how to shape and build stories from the information. Govindraj Ethiraj brings expertise from starting IndiaSpend, India's first data-focused journalism endeavor, Yolanda Ma from her time working and training in Hong Kong and China, and Giannina Segnini from a long and distinguished career as investigative editor at Costa Rica's La Nacion. Reg Chua of Thomson Reuters moderates.
