Johanna Son, a journalist for more than two decades, is the Bangkok-based director of IPS Asia-Pacific (
www.ipsnewsasia.net) media organisation.
She has edited 15 books, the latest one being ‘Reporting Development in ASEAN’, which contains the work of regional journalists and a content analysis study on how the region’s newspapers report on the Association of South-east Asian Nations. She now looks after a fellowship program around reporting on ASEAN ahead of the ASEAN Community in 2015, which includes a media forum on ASEAN reporting next year.
She has also designed and run capacity-building and reporting programmes, including co-implemented IPS Asia-Pacific's 10-year fellowship program called Imaging Our Mekong for journalists from the Greater Mekong Region, and has led multi-cultural teams of Asian journalists in editorial teams that produce newspapers/online newspapers conferences.
A magna cum laude graduate of the University of the Philippines and Philippine winner of the Citibank Pan-Asia Journalism Award in 1992, she has covered foreign policy, ASEAN, politics, development and culture and writes for various news organisations as well.
